Does shoveling count as cross-training?

Great week for running and cross-training.  3 days of running (all treadmill but what'cha gonna do when you get 18-20" of snow?!) and 2 were 5m days.  Foot is not feeling bad and 5m doesn't feel long anymore.  Also got some weight training in with the running clinic, hours and hours of shoveling snow on Wednesday and 4-5m of snowshoeing at Maudsley with Cathy and Denise on Sunday.  Even got a little picture-taking in while on the trails though we couldn't stop for long as the wind along the Merrimack was a killer.  Great to get outdoors for some fun.  Next race is the Frigid Fiver in Newburyport on Super Bowl Sunday.  It was going to be a great start to the day but, well, yesterday's game took all that away.  How many days until "pitchers and catchers"?  Wink

Breezy Run

Well, this has been a good week.  I've been to both of Pam's Running Smart clinics and got more running in than I have in a LONG time.  Feels good both in mind and body.  Classes are keeping me in line and are great in getting me to focus on stretching more.  I know I should do it but I keep slacking.  Got in both treadmill and outdoor running this week.  Today was a great run outdoors in Newburyport.  Temps were good but a bit windy.  I was testing out the new GPS watch and was only planning on running 5 (the rest of the group was doing 8-10m) but I was feeling pretty good and did 6.  I was running a comfy 9:25 pace when I started running into the wind for the last 2 miles.  It's taken a while but I'm finally thawed out!

New Year, New Goal

2011 was off with a 10K in Lowell (1st Run) with warmer than normal temperatures.  When I signed up I had hopes of finishing sub-1:00:00 but a nasty chest/head cold didn’t help.  Still, with that in mind and not much running earlier in the week, I finished in 1:01:17.  I am pleased and looking forward to shaking the cold and getting back on track.

My goal for this year is to run a half marathon before my big birthday.  Dave has recommended running the half in Lowell in September so that’s my goal race.  He’ll work on my race plan so I take it slow and get to race day in good shape.

I’m also starting the New Year off with Pam’s Run Smart clinic.  I attended last fall but work ended up getting in the way.  This will be another good way to get everything back on track.  Smile
